24. LONDON AND LANCASHIRE Fire Ins Co, Copper, W101B/A106E, good condition, some blue background colour still remaining but evidence of over-painting with white house paint, no cracks, fraying or tearing at the nail holes. £75
25.* ROYAL EXCHANGE Ass, Lead, (X2) W10B/A10Aii, Policy No.1432, An excellent example of this very early mark in very good condition with no tearing or flattening to the mark. It is mounted on an oval oak display board, and in addition comes with a similar numbered mark in fair condition. The same policy number is clearly stamped on both and not cast. According to Wright, these two marks came from buildings in Essex and Hertfordshire belonging to the same person, covered by Policy No. 1432. The Royal Exchange decided that every house insured should have a mark and similarly, properties belonging to the same owner. Never before have two such unique marks been available for sale. Recently several of these marks have sold, individually, for between £2,500 and £7,000. £3,000
