    Standard Gauge


    Appleby Frodingham Railway, Corus Steelworks, Scunthorpe.
    This has to be top of the list. On most Saturdays you can take a steam hauled ride through the Corus steel works at Scunthorpe. What's more some of the trips are in ex British Railway Brake Vans. You need to book in advance for all rides.

    Lincolnshire Wolds Railway, Ludborough.
    Operating from Ludborough to North Thoresby and the only preserved standard gauge railway in the county. Located between Louth and Grimsby and open most Saturdays; Wednesdays in August and selected other dates.

    Miniature & Narrow Gauge


    Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway.
    One of the countries premier 15" gauge light railways. With many special events and visiting locomotives throughout the season.

    Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway.
    Reopened, in May 2009, at Skegness Water Leisure Park, Walls Lane, Ingoldmells. This is a 60cm Narrow Gauge railway formerly located at Humberston near Cleethorpes.

    North Ings Farm Railway, Dorrington, Lincoln.
    40th Anniversary year.
    A 2ft gauge railway of 1/3rd mile originally opened in 1971 to serve the farms poultry business. Now home to seven diesel and one steam loco it is open for passenger rides on the first Sunday monthly, April to October.

    Kirkby Green Light Railway.
    A privately owned 10¼" steam and diesel railway only open a few days each year. No web site or contact details.

    Grimsby & Cleethorpes MES, Waltham Mill, Nr Grimsby.
    Founded in 1935 and with a well established 7¼", 5" and (part) 3½" ground level track. Located at the Waltham Mill site 4 miles from the centre of Grimsby and open most Sundays and Bank Holidays from Easter to late October. August Bank Holiday weekend is their main event.

    Evergreens Miniature Railway, Stickney, Boston.
    A fairly new club with a 7¼" ground level and 5" raised track. Open days are New Years Day, Easter Saturday and then the last Saturday of each month through to October.

    Postland Miniature Railway, Crowland Garden Centre, Crowland.
    A 7¼" railway of approx 500 yards length. Open 11am to 4pm Saturdays and Sundays from March to October and fine weather weekends through to Christmas. Normal locomotive is petrol engined Class 50 with steam locos on special occasions. Contact David Oswald on 07984 249395.

    Scunthorpe Society of Model Engineers.
    Established in 1935 and having a raised 5" and 3½" track located at Normanby Hall Country Park. Open Sundays, Bank Holiday Mondays and some Saturdays 1pm to 4.30pm through the Summer.

    Lincoln & District Model Engineering Society
    Established in 1933 and with a track at North Scarle Playing Fields. They have a 7¼" and 5" ground level track which is open various dates between May and September (Check their web site for details).

    Other Railways

    I include the following railways in the interests of completeness although they are 'rides' aimed at children.


    Belton Light Railway, Belton House, Nr Grantham.
    A 7¼" railway of 500 yards within the grounds of Belton House (National Trust). Two Diesel Locomotives. Admission payable to enter the grounds in addition to cost of ride.


    Mablethorpe Miniature Railway, Queens Park, Mablethorpe.
    A 7¼" railway of about 200yards.
